The Women’s Wellness & Fertility Center (WWFC) at CMC was barely open a month when Kelly and Jim Lockwood had their first appointment with Dr. Sarah Bascle. “My husband and I had been trying for a while and saw another provider in Nashua that basically said, ‘I’ve given you all the help I can but there’s a new practice opening at CMC. Why don’t you go there and see what they can do for you.’”

The Lockwoods were charting Kelly’s cycles using the Creighton Model FertilityCare™ System. They had been using this method of natural family planning throughout their marriage and were looking for a medical explanation as to why they were unable to conceive. They had heard about NaProTECHNOLOGY through their own research as well as friends in other parts of the country.

NaProTECHNOLOGY refers to Natural Procreative Technology – an approach to understanding women’s reproductive health. It works in concert with the FertilityCare™ System and regulates fertility by identifying and treating the underlying causes of the problem. NaProTECHNOLOGY was developed by Dr. Thomas Hilgers at the Pope Paul IV Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. It is a scientific and data-driven approach that is also in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

“You are the expert on your own body so you are bringing information to Dr. Bascle and working in partnership to figure out next steps which is really empowering. Instead of the doctor saying, ‘I’m the expert and this is what you’re going to do’ she works with you.”

Since Kelly and her husband had been charting for a while, Dr. Bascle was able to work quickly to help figure out their next steps. Less than two months after their first appointment, they found out they were pregnant. On December 28, 2017 they welcomed their baby girl, Abigail, into the world.

“It was wonderful to be going into labor and have your doctors next to you saying ‘I’m going to pray for you,’ that there is this caring for the whole person,” Kelly remembers. “It is truly an amazing place. We were blessed by the care we received. From the front desk to the doctors, their entire purpose of being there is their patients.”
