Endocrinology

The endocrine system is made up of the hormone-producing glands and organs of the body. Hormones control various functions including growth and development, metabolism, tissue function and even mood. It is a very delicate system where even the slightest change in hormone level can dramatically impact the way you feel. Most endocrine disorders leave patients feeling tired and without energy. Diseases that impact the endocrine system are treated in the medical specialty of endocrinology.

Issues with the endocrine system may contribute to many different conditions. An endocrinologist can help to diagnose endocrine disease and offer treatments to get the system back on track to regain normal hormone function. Some diseases they might treat include:

  • Cushing’s disease
  • Diabetes
  • Early puberty
  • Growth hormone issues
  • Kidney function (adrenal insufficiency)
  • Pituitary disease
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Thyroid issues (both hypo and hyperthyroidism)
