Intensive Care
The CMC Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is staffed with dedicated and compassionate providers and nurses who have experience treating patients with severe and life-threatening illnesses. Patients may require care in the ICU after an accident, a serious illness, or treatment after a major operation. Patients in the ICU are often attached to machines to monitor the patient’s condition, deliver medications, and help support failing organs such as a breathing machine.
When a patient is admitted to the ICU it is normal to feel helpless or overwhelmed. One of the scariest things about critical illness is not knowing what is going to happen. The ICU staff is happy to answer your questions to the best of their ability and provide support to you and your loved one during this stressful time.

Understanding Delirium
Is your loved one confused?
Delirium is common among ICU patients and often patients on a breathing machine are at higher risk for developing delirium during their stay. Delirium may begin rapidly or come on gradually. It can cause patients to feel frightened, angry, lonely and ashamed. Learn about some things you can do to help.

ICU Survivors Peer
Did you know that it is quite common for intensive care patients to have lingering effects of their stay? We're still learning ways to prevent and treat post-intensive care syndrome, or PICS, but some patients have benefitted from sharing similar experiences. They find it can provide opportunities for participants to gain practical skills and self-care strategies from those ahead of them in the healing process.
