Research
Dr. Gilani has a clinical interest in heart valve disease. He is an expert in the use of minimally-invasive techniques to repair and replace the aortic and mitral valves. He’s involved in clinical research involving aortic stenosis (narrowing of the aortic valve) and a minimally-invasive technique to replace the valve (TAVR—transcatheter aortic valve replacement). Dr. Gilani is one of three principal investigators in a study evaluating how certain biomarkers can help optimize post-procedure treatment following a TAVR. He is also involved in research of mitral valve regurgitation and serves as a principal investigator in a trial of a new, minimally-invasive mitral valve replacement device. If successful, this device could be used as an alternative to heart valve surgery.
