General Information:
At the Aortic Center at CMC’s New England Heart & Vascular Institute Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery, we specialize in the early detection, monitoring and treatment of these complex aortic conditions employing state-of-the-art imaging and the most innovative open surgical and endovascular techniques.
The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body, carrying blood from the heart to all the major organ systems. The aorta is under tremendous pressure and sometimes can become enlarged (aneurysm) or tear (dissection). If discovered early, many of these problems can be treated electively, often with minimally invasive endovascular procedures.
